Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS) has revamped its education offerings. After a two-year hiatus, NMIMS has replaced its distance education courses with online learning programs.
Overcoming Challenges
NMIMS faced a setback for three admission intakes. The University Grants Commission (UGC) barred NMIMS from offering open and distance learning programs in Jan-Feb 2023, July-Aug 2023, and Jan-Feb 2024. The debarment was due to violations related to the Centre for Internal Quality Assurance, study material quality, and nomenclature.
Transition to Online Learning
Distance education was a significant revenue source for NMIMS. To address UGC’s concerns, NMIMS completed three cohorts of admissions and resolved the issues. In August, NMIMS received fresh approval from UGC to resume its programs, now as online learning courses.
Meena Chintamaneni, NMIMS’s Pro-Vice-Chancellor, explained the shift. “We realized there are limitations to distance education. Students had to come to centers for exams. Technology is our strength. So, we strengthened our technology platform, which is the backbone of online programs.”
New Online Programs Launched
A month ago, NMIMS launched its online programs in Working Executive MBA, MBA, BBA, and BCom. The BBA and BCom were already available online earlier. These programs are now offered through various portals, not just the government’s Swayam platform.
A separate team from the Distance Education Bureau evaluated NMIMS’s technology platform and approved it for offering online programs through multiple portals.
Attracting Students Despite Delays
Despite the delayed admissions, NMIMS attracted students due to its strong reputation. Chintamaneni mentioned that the university managed to enroll students despite the challenges faced during the debarment period.
Future of NMIMS Online Education
This transition marks a new chapter for NMIMS, focusing on flexible and technology-driven education. By enhancing their online platforms, NMIMS aims to provide high-quality education that is accessible to more students.
